English 101

All through out the weekend, there was one particular incident which has been on my mind. On friday, for my english tutorial class, we were required to give a one-minute speech, thus i did mine. And one thing my classmate said to me after that, left me speechless.

*After my one-minute speech.
clap clap..~
I sat down, and my classmate turned towards me and asked,
"ni kang cai na ge, shi jiang shen mo?"
"(what was your speech about?)"

It was then, that it dawned upon me that, i don't think my classmates understood what i said! Well, considering half is from some chinese high school, and the other half are fresh stpm graduates from out of town.

What a lecturer of mine said today was downright true, the biggest problem faced by Malaysian graduates are language barriers. We can be really good in the head, but what are we, if we do not have the gift of the gap too? Knowlegde and the ability to speak goes hand in hand. With knowledge but without the gap, how are you supposed to bring your point across? Same goes with, if you have the gap but without the knowledge, all that comes out from your mouth are worthless.

But thus said, does that mean that my mandarin speaking classmates are not good? And does that make me, an english literate, better? No way! There's no one way to tell which is a good way or not. But we have to move with times. If English language is important in times like today, then master it. Don't lose out.
I'm just lucky i was brought up with the language. ;p

Seriously..whats ur problem with ur classmates who cant speak or understand english?? ur classmate asked"(what was your speech about?)" and i think he/she really wanted to know what ur talking about because he/she couldnt understand, is it wrong if u cant understand something and ask about it?? why situation like this always have to be seen from a negative perception by smart asses like you??

"Acknowlegde it when u know something, admit it when u dont, that itself is knowledge"-confucius-

..and he/she just wanted to know what the fuck u were talking about..maybe YOU were the one who's unclear about ur points?? have ur confident ass ever thought about that?? ohh no..i doubt it.. because u were so good even a stupid dog understood what u said...get a fucking life man..a not so self-centered one..."move with times" my ass..ur not that good ya know..u just look like a dumb blonde with no boobs to match..no offence..and when u say ur not that good too i totally agree..at least u still make an effort to save ur own chicken ass.. just let the mandarin speaking students be..they might be the ones earning millions in the future while ur still finding faults in ppl around u just to make urself feel that ur better than them...

***If English language is important in times like today, then master it. Don't lose out.***

haha why because u say so?? u sounded so much like a smart ass..a perfect example of a smart ass i hav to say.. Just because YOU think its important..doesnt mean that everyone has to think the same..

1UTAMA group of owners from See Hoy Chan are Hakka businessmen from China. They do not know how to speak english but they are earning billions here ...language is important..but if u cant even make sense of ur own words (regardless what language)..what is the point?.. just because u "think" that u are "good" in this language, they might be better in other things..even simpler things like knowing what they are talking about.. My english is not very good too, least its good enough to say i have no respect for people like you.. And for the mandarin speaking students, its not ur fault..u are bringing ur point across just fine..its people like the this blogger who thinks that they are too good for you..a big fuck off to this blogger...seriously..fuck off..

Anonymous, i do not have a problem with my classmates. This post was just to merely state a point that there are alot of people losing in the english language. It doesn't mean i have no respect for them, or if you have read my post and have an open mind towards things, you would not have come to this judgement. It is not about them, it's about being proficient in the language in times to come.

Did i say they were stupid for not understanding what i said? No. Did i say that i'm so much better than them? No. Get your facts right before making a fool out of yourself.

"u just look like a dumb blonde with no boobs to match" lol. I may not have the boobs, but at least i have a mindset of my own, and am doing something useful with it, instead of being all bitter about things like you are.

Not forgetting, that i also have the guts to pass of opinions and judgements as my own. Unlike people like you, who daren't come up and show yourself.

So who's the one who should fuck off here? And one more thing, just because you don't have a life, lay off mine. :)

anonymous: what the fuck is your problem? (to use your words) i understand that you may want to criticise what lynn had written, but lay off the foul language k, or is that the only language you know? never in her post has she said that her classmates were stupid or that she is better than them. stop being naive & face reality, english is important, whether you like it or not. i'm sure going to university, many people are there hoping to improve their language

oh please & to stoop so low as to judge lynn by her appearance. look who's the hypocrite now. you harp on & on about not judging people by their english proficiency & you here are judging lynn by her so-called 'dumb blonde with no boobs'? please get a life & fuck off from my friend's blog

well said lynn...
u know what's this called? it's plain jealousy.
never knew having to speak good english mite actually offend shallow minded ppl...whoever he/she is. ;)

to anonymous- clearly, ur english isn't very good. i can't say that mine is any good but at least i can see that sue lynn had not said anything to 'UNDERRATE' the rest of her classmates. all she said was merely...the importance of masterring a language. and did she said that chinese speaking speakers were 'stupid'? READ the post again, will you? mayb you're just confused. clutch on to the dictionary everytime u read. u won't be able to understand the whole post without it. ;)
and please cut down on ur swearing. it really makes University students look dim-witted. i expect u're from UTAR too. dun disgrace us will you? ;)

p.s- LYNN! it seems that your blog has really attracted attention! keep it up!! it's a nice place to start a debate! HAHA

dear anonymous(to be polite), i'm quite amused by the way you barge into someone's blog and just swear off like that. to swear other's ass(and boobs) and get the facts right.. yes, i respect you. BUT.. YOU, ANONYMOUS, go barking around without even actually understanding the post. are you trying to fight for the mandarin ed students who are not quite proficient in the english language?? c'mon, please.. grow up. if there's anyone that needs help, it would be you. they can get along fine enough. can you at least try to be polite when commenting on other's blog? even though it might not be of your nature to be polite??

lynn: he's/she's just a bloody coward without a name. got nothing else to do but fart around people's blog.

Some people just don't get it, like it or not English is important.. period.. end of story.

Its sad to see people come up here, piss all over people's blog and not leave a name card for a return call heh, a coward is a coward I guess.

Personally, I believe that one should be able to speak English, our national language Malay and your own culture's languages (be it tamil, japanese or korean etc etc)

Why is english important "anonymous"? It is english that allows all you see to be possible. All that you see before you right now including the immature insults you have written is in English and more importantly... the code that allows you to press "publish your comment" button is in english. So, if you can't see the importance, your mother must have dropped you on your head when you were little( or you are just born dumb).

Why is good english important? Well, you might not know this due to your miniscule grey matter but a simple error in past or present tense in a legal document could have a very , very huge difference..

Yeah yeah I'm sure those hakka businessman do well enough for themselves but I am sure if presented documents in english they would require someone to translate it for them wether they like to or not.. so for those of us who know it all and well.. even better right?

I've got nothing against people who speak Mandarin though.. I am a chinese myself and I do speak cantonese but I can't write and I envy those who can.. but lets face it besides going to china to study, how important is english? Are you even in Higher education "anonymous" ? Because if you are you should know that in Academic writing, proper english is ESSENTIAL. If you have bad or broken english, your lecturers or peers will never ever take you seriously.

If you have managed to get into college, from here on, it falls upon yourself to make sure you are proficient in the language in which the syllabus is presented.. if you are not.. then it really is your own fault..

To the owner of this blog and the rest of her friend's sorry if it seems like i'm blabbing hehe, its late and i just stumbled across this website whilst well.. websurfing ;)

Good luck in all your endeavors ppl! and well done on a great blog
