The Other Person
"Ever since you had a girlfriend, we're not close anymore."
"Does your girlfriend not like me? Is that why we're not best friends anymore?"
How would you respond when your other half's long time best friend presents him/her with that question?
They've been a tight unit way before you came into the picture - been through ups and downs and grew up together and have seen each other at their worst. For most girls whose boyfriends have such a relationship with another lady before them, would a tinge of insecurity. It's the thought that, one day he will realise that his childhood friend has always been the love of his life. Sadly, that's how much movies and the media have manipulated our thinking.
I'm somewhat sitting on the fence on this matter. At times, I feel there should be some boundaries once your best friend (of the opposite sex) has a partner. No more sleepovers, no more pet names, no more pinching each other's asses, no more sitting on each other's laps, etc. And sometimes, I feel that we're living in this 'new age' philosophical-bordering the 70s free willy lifestyle that, it's fine because the trust is there and both of them are just platonic friends. Right?
Many have claimed that a male and a female can never share a platonic relationship. Ultimately, it will always lead to tangled emotions and then more. Either that, or these people are those who have had their hearts broken when their partners ran back to their childhood best friends.
I have been faced with a similar situation, but I am not sure if the other person is right about me not being happy about the friendship or they are just being overtly sensitive. Because truth be told, at times I do get jealous of their relationship and the stories and experiences they have shared. And I too sometimes wondered if one day they would realise that they are soulmates and run off towards the sunset together. But I know for a fact that I definitely do not dislike her. I just don't know her well enough and vice versa.
Human relationships are really very complex. All made even more complicated by the confusing web of human emotions. Perhaps all of us should realise that the start of a new relationship doesn't mean the end of an old one. It just means that people around should give some breathing space for this new relationship to bloom into its own flower on its own ground.

Bangkok Bang Bang of Fun
As most will know, Bangkok is deemed as the shopping haven for shopaholics and non-shopaholics alike. Their vast array of activities allows people of all ages and interests to have a good time during their visit. I am no different from the many other girls who frequents Bangkok with the shared love of shopping and at a bargain no less.
After ushering the New Year, we packed what little essentials we / I needed for the trip + 2 sets of clothes in a ginormous suitcase and headed to the Land of Smiles or more commonly known as the Land of Shopping for the first trip of 2010.
Prior to the trip, I was tasked to draw up the agenda since I have been to Bkk twice and the admin work - print out e-ticket, print out hotel info, payments, 4 days itinerary and a list of interesting places to visit, etc. And I have to say that I did it as a professional tour agent could. Didn't I bf? So armed with these information, we excitedly hopped onto a plane and flew off.
Long story short - I failed as a shopper for not filling up my ginormous suitcase till it was about to burst like I did the last time. I bought what I thought was necessary, and closed my eyes to the other things that were nice but I wouldn't wear due to the abundance of blogshops selling them back home, and altho they were almost 1/2 if not 1/3 of the price.
I think the reason I am recapping this, is that I realised how selfish I was this trip. My main purpose was shopping and spending time with the BF and my thought was that, I've already kind of seen the touristy places during my last 2 trips, so we can skip those. What I didn't realise or was too blinded by selfishness to see was that, as much as this was a shopping trip for me, it was also the first trip to Bkk for the bf.
We could have visited so many other places like we would, if we were someplace else.
We wanted to pop by the Rooftop Bar which was just next to our hotel - we didn't, because we/I was tired, lazy.
We could have chilled out at the F&B + live band section at Suan Lum
We could have visited Chinatown for food or tried out Vertigo Grill overlooking the Bkk skyline (Our reasoning was that since we had 'expensive' dinner twice already, nvm la)
We could have visited Patpong night-life or the ChaoPhraya river cruise if I hadn't insisted on walking around still after the malls and shops closed at 7pm.
This street dinner was the best of our trip!
Thinking back, my adamant mindset to shop until I drop in Bkk restricted us from visited many other places. Now that i've learnt my lesson, and will only shop at 2 places and at the right time, shall we make another visit this CNY bf? hehe. I promise we visit all of the above that we didn't, and ok a few more temples for praying.
What say you? Ons? :)

Reflection of 2009
I've not been updating for awhile now. Mainly because I have been busy traveling and taking the easy way out by storing all the happenings and memories in a photo album on facebook. People say pictures paint a thousand words. But just a thought I'm throwing out here, how often do we misconstrue pictures with the wrong words?
As we inch closer to the end of 2009, I look back at the year with gratitude. A year ago, I was at the brink of losing my job with the uncertainty of my then company giving way to the world economy crash. Almost a year ago, I gave up on my 5 yr relationship and decided to soldier on alone in 2009. A year ago, I was eating hawker food and maggie mee five days a week as a staple meal, while leaving away from home. A year ago, I was a fresh grad still reeking of the stench of my photocopied university notes. A year ago, dad was living abroad as well, and the family was separated in 3 ways.
I started my 2009 with uncertainties and many worries. Not knowing if this year will be better than the last. But as fate or karma or buddha or kuanyima would have it, my life shifted gear and started picking up again. I am a firm believer now that good things do happen when you least expect it. It is when you relieve yourself of expectations and worry, and put things into action with the hope and faith that you're doing the best you can, things will fall into place. Call it the law of attraction or whatever, the power of optimism works!
I got a job offer from 3 companies in a week, met someone (or rather saw him in a different light) utterly amazing, accepted the job offer with an NGO, fell in love with amazing, dad got a good offer back home, family is still separated in 3 ways but we're good, had a wonderful year traveling both for business and leisure, had a raise and bonus after half a year, learn so much more professionally, enjoyed working with the company, in addition to having so much fun this year.
There's not a thing from my past I would trade as it had brought me to where I am today. So 2009, thank you for providing the space and time for such wonderful memories. I sincerely hope that 2010 will brim even more with happiness, love, joy and success for me and all my loved ones.
In case I do not post anything before that,
Have a Merry Xmas and an even Happier New Year!
Cheers!

I love Novembers as much as I love you
Wow, it’s been almost a month since I wrote something. Did I hear a snort?
Things at work is picking up full speed, my trip to HK was as those of you who had followed me on twitter/fb, very fruitful. Leaving me with a large burnt hole in my pockets in which I can still smell the stench until now.
Last month was the bf’s 25th birthday, and my proudest moment to date was successfully throwing him a surprise party! I roped in his friends, my friends, his sister, booked the venue, made up a cover-story, crossed my fingers and wished for the best.
His friends were quite skeptical of being able to fool him, after all, he is the master of tricks. So I was thinking, “Okay, I’m fine if he finds out prior to the surprise. As long as everyone can get together and celebrate this quarter of a century milestone of his life with him.”
Little did I know that my lovely bf was super trusting. I’m so happy really, that I played a part in making his 25th a memorable one. Too bad no one had a camera to capture his shocked face when he walked into a room full of his friends. Lots of love hon. :)
********
On Monday, the office doorbell rang, I looked up and what do I see? Lo and behold, a vase of beautiful white lilies. Really, where did I find you?
This card came along with the liliesThey have since bloomed into a bunch of wild looking lilies which looked utterly beautiful and smells heavenly!
The only thing left now is Friday - when you return.

TGIF!
I'm excited till I'm anxious!
Excited with the thought of seeing you again
Anxiously looking at the clock ticking away until I can leave to pick you up
Although it'll only be for a few days, we'll have lots of fun house hunting and costume hunting this weekend. And then it'll be back to phone conversations for another week.
It's a busy month ahead.
But no matter, you're coming home in approximately 2 more hours! :)
*****
Was just thinking last night as well. I miss spending girly time with my mom and sis. And also family dinners. Haven't had one of those in a while where previously we'd have one every weekend without fail.
Everyone's so busy.
Nevermind. It's Friday!

Ghost of girlfriends past
For all my relationships, there is something that always comes between it. Something I think is a problem many women face.
Comparing themselves with the other women in their partners' lives - ex girlfriends, childhood friends, colleagues, etc. Do any of you do that yourself? I know I am guilty as charged.
This has created a lot of problems internally within my own thoughts and emotions as well as taken a toll on my relationships. Where I am constantly comparing myself. But then, why the need for that? Why do we girls do this to ourselves and to our partners? Are we not good enough that's why he chose us?
It's ridiculous. The Bf (the sweetheart) has asked before, why should I compare myself to them? Because according to him, I am incomparable. My answer is, I dont know. I think it's this innate curiosity chip built in us that makes us hunger for those information. What does she look like, how does her hair look, how does she dress, damn she has bigger boobs than I, oh crap she looks cute..etc. Then beat our other halves up for being with us. Poor boys.
I was driving on my way to meet Reen when I had this light bulb moment where I commanded myself in my head to "Stop comparing yourself anymore! You're the one he wants, love and is with!"
There really is not one reason for me bring myself down by comparing, but I do it anyways. Maybe just for fun. Maybe because I'm a masochist and I like the drama in my life. No matter what the reason is, it's suffering to keep doing so.
Therefore, to my dear BF, I promise I will do my best to stop comparing and bringing up other girls in our conversations. They are the past and will be kept in the past-vault with the keys buried deep. I cannot promise that their ghosts won't appear every now and then, but I do promise to try and keep them away with all my will power.
Now, how can i make them disappear once and for all in reality?
:p

weekend getaway trip
A few weeks ago, the bf and i decided to take the weekend and drive back to our hometown of malacca. Our parent's hometown to be precise.Of course first stop is jonker street for my favorite chicken rice balls. Tho, he doesn't really fancy the balls much.
We checked in to this quaint little hotel in the middle of nowhere, unnoticeable if you don't know where it is located. Beautifully decorated with traditional nyonya decorations, jars, condiments, etc.Definitely a recommend to all who enjoys elegantly dressed rooms with plush pillows and comforters with 5 star services.
Midnight cap at jonkersMore pictures can be viewed here.
Up next - bali trip update!

I'm thankful to be here
Ahh..so much has happened since my last post. I need to make it a point to write it down as soon as it happens, if not, i'll never remember them correctly when I finally do take the time to sit down and blog.
Last week, we finally finished recording our second album after almost what, 5 months? And these are only the vocals. Now Greg aka MrProducer will have to put the finishing touches- strings, more lead guitars, polishing and tweaking of vocal pitches etc and we are good to launch! Not sure when will be the next time I'll fall asleep on that plush red sofa while waiting for my turn to record.
Last weekend as well, we were invited to perform at this inter-religion World Peace gathering at the Pure Life Society where groups of every faith were invited to share their religious musics to each other. So, we represented the Buddhist community and I'm proud to say we had the better singers present although I truly enjoyed the Baha'i group's chant that incorporated different languages.
That same weekend, I played badminton again after a thousand years of not playing. My arm and calves hurt like mad after that for a few days. Gladly so. I desperately need more workout sessions. I'm starting to believe that my Belly Dancing classes alone isn't going to help much.
Oh yea, for those who hasn't known, I've took up Belly Dancing recently in hopes that I will sport a leaner, toner, svelt figure with a more defined waist in 3 months. Which I don't think can happen with just one hour class a week. Heh.
I walked in for my first class feeling all hopeful until I saw my teachers waist. Erm. Not very defined and flat.. But nevermind, I am enjoying the class tremendously! Maybe I'll sign up for their other classes. Like pole-dancing perhaps? :p
Things are going pretty well with the bf so far - 3 months into the relationship. We've done so many things together in this few months. And I'm happy. Very happy. But one thing that I am most glad is the fact that he makes the effort to bond with my family. I didn't want to compare my relationships but this was one of the main factor that irked me the most in my past.
Now, I have to restrain him from professing his love too much for my grandma. Haha. "Byebye, I love youuuu". I think my grandma is getting a kick out of him. =)
Without this turning into a fullblown love profession, I'll save that for more special occasions, I'm just truly happy that I'm with him. He's good for me in every way.

Freeze the rainbows now will ya?
Don't you realise how everytime I write now, it's about things that matters but don't really? Scratch that if it doesn't make sense.
I was just thinking about how everyone is preoccupied with one thing or another in their lives right now. Be it work, studies, relationships or whatever. And how can life just be all about this?
I want to run through lake gardens until my legs hurt and I've run out of breath. I want to sit on that roller coaster and scream my lungs out till I'm hoarse. I want to sleep until I can't anymore and have to get up because I am pissed at not being able to sleep again. I want to have picnics in the park all day from morning till night, just eating, lying on my back, feeling the warm sun and breeze on my face, neck, arms and other parts of my body that are exposed whilst not having the slightest worry or thought of what I have yet to get done, not even at the back of my mind.
...You can tell it's a hormonal period now right.
I came across this quote from the internet. I don't even know who it's from but it's such an honest perception about love, so different from the fairytale ending that we grew up with.
I read that and felt warm and fuzzy because I feel all the same things that were mentioned in the quote. =)
On the other side of the coin, feeling those is still a fairytale moment, the hard part comes after these feelings slowly subside and you have to work harder to maintain or regain those feelings. But that's a different post altogether.
Now let's get back to reality. Responsibilities & commitments.

Convo between the bf and me on Sunday
When i have kids next time, i would prefer my first child to be a son. You? Do you have any preference?
Actually, if my kids come out human also i'm damn happy already. Scared come out monkey or animal... As long as human, i'm happy. Boy girl all, doesn't matter at this point.
-_- Malo.
Knowing his character, what he says make perfect sense. Coz highly likely monkeys produce monkeys.
hehe. You know i l u.

March-ing Forward
March flew by in a blink. Three weeks into my new job and I find myself still liking it. This should be a good indication that I am on the right path. Even if I am not, I'll just convince myself that I love my job. Yes I do.
It has been a pretty eventful month. My recording/practice sessions with the Igemz have been going on full blast alongside a hectic work schedule in which I am trailing behind. I foresee my eyebags and dark circles to be a permanent resident from now onwards. Not like it wasn't in the first place. Now it's the pimples that are popping up like daisies.
I used to never have problems with pimples or what not on my face. But ever since I lived and toiled in SG, everything went south. (pardon the pun). Right now, I don't even have time for a facial. Any extra time I have, I'll sleep it away or spend it with Lee. =)
*****
The other day, to commemorate our first month together, he brought me MO for dinner. To be very honest, I still feel that things are surreal with him. I can't believe I managed to find someone who so closely resembles myself. One who thinks on the same wavelength as I do, have the same attitude on life, work and the future as me and not to mention tall, dark and handsome too. Haha, don't kembang if you read this ok.
Time definitely is not the determining factor of the growing bond. It goes way beyond that.
Here's to many more, love.
Ok. /End of romantic expression of feelings.
******
After not seeing the gang for awhile, it was refreshing to hang out with them again. Also to introduce 'The BF' to them. Too bad my main chop wasn't there. PX, bila lagi?

I wanted to try and get a shot of him dancing coz I am still amazed at how well he can dance. ARR. Sexy ah. But, a lousy cam takes useless shots.
That was all I could get la. I think YLY would have some from previous excursions on the floor.
*More pics at my fb.

Sunrise sunrise, feels like morning in your eyes.
Work is picking up with full force starting from tomorrow onwards. No more slacking and taking my own sweet time doing things. It's crunch time - do or die.
But looking on the bright side, hopefully i'd get to travel more often to these places should i really decide (if i can't turn it down) to expand the project in these countries.
********
I really do think that I am at a good place right now. Work and personal wise. All it took was for a low period to turn it all around until a wonderful change came along.
It was very unexpected. Very very very. In the end, it won me over.
Although many people will not be able to understand the decisions I've made, I really don't care anymore. Because only I and those involved know what has been going on and what's going on now. I think those who are close to me would know that I am not one to be swayed by other people's opinions. As long as I know that I have made a good decision, one that is right for me, for now, and in the long run - it's all that matters.
Right now, I am happy. I have been living in someone else's shadow for so long that I forgot what it was like to do things for myself. To make a decision that involves my own happiness.
I've been battling with this question for quite a while - does time have to be the determining factor of the realness of something?
I don't know. But what I do know is that, things work and happen in unexplainable ways.
Time, only comes into play when you decide to take and use it to cultivate whatever you have into something bigger, greater and better.
Hmm.
I've been told several times, You don't have to see the entire staircase, but it's the first step that matters. Right? :)

there’s still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
there’s still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
it’s still a little hard to say what's going on
there’s still a little bit of your ghost your witness
there’s still a little bit of your face i haven't kissed
you step a little closer each day
that I can´t say what´s going on
stones taught me to fly
love, it taught me to lie
life, it taught me to die
so it's not hard to fall
when you float like a cannonball
there’s still a little bit of your song in my ear
there’s still a little bit of your words i long to hear
you step a little closer to me
so close that I can´t see what´s going on
stones taught me to fly
love taught me to lie
life taught me to die
'cos its not hard to fall, and I don't want to scare her
its not hard to fall
and i don't want to lose
its not hard to grow
when you know that you just don't know

Very auspicious date ain't it?
Of coz it is! It's simon's and my 5th year anniversary!!
Happy 5th Anniversary to Us! :)
5 years, there's so many i want to say, so many things i have said and haven't said.
But, thank you for all that you have done for me, for us.
I am the luckiest girl to have found a person like you.
Love you darling! MUAKS!
Here's to many more half decades to come!
******
I was having one of those stressful moments at work when suddenly my direct line rang. This chinese uncle on the other end saying he's outside of my office and there's flowers for me.
Shocked and in a daze, i quickly ran out to retrieve them. Turns out, the darling bf sent a bouquet of dark pink and cream roses to my office as a surprise. Haha. It really made my day after that.
As usual we had to have our celebratory dinner. So we headed over to brazilian styled Carnivore at Vivo for some MEAT fest! Gosh, meat fest was an understatement. Free flow of drinks you've heard, but have you experienced free flow of meat? Roasted lamb, grilled ribs, steaks, ham, sausages with bacon..... all you can eat.
I quote simon, "you come out of Carnivore a Herbivore".
But for all you meat lovers out there, this place is a definitely must try! Only 37 dollars per person excl drinks and tax.
So nice.. haven't had a nice dinner with him in months!
Happy 5 years honey! :)

Introducing the birthday present from me to myself!
Nokia 7390.
It's so pretty rite?!? What i've wanted ever since i saw it. :)
And the first picture taken with my new baby-
is of course with my other baby. Lol
Those who know me well, knows that i've never been so enthusiastic or obsessed with wanting to buy something other than clothes. Even clothes also i'm not so dilligently obsessed. This one was different. I shocked myself too. But all for the greater good la. hehehe
me is back for school.. :(
I'm finally back! And simon is over the other side of the bridge.. :(
Sigh, LDR.
Ok, no emo-ing!
So i got a birthday present from me to ME! It's something that i've liked for quite a while and yet have been stinging on getting it. I finally got it in spore and the euphoria took away all the heavy heartedness of LDR! Yay!
Ish.. stupid blogger. Can't upload any pictures at all. *grumblegrumblecursecursegrumblegrumble*

one day closer
Some days i grumble that time is moving so slow, even watching tv is a drag. Most of the time, i complaint that time is passing me so fast that days are a blur. No winning to that.
~*~
Inching closer to the four year mark, i have learnt so much from the both of us as well as so little.
People who asks me "how long have you been together?"
One and a half years is my reply.
It's long enough to feel at ease in each other's presence, yet short enough to still be in the 'honeymoon' stages.
That's how i feel.
The duration really doesn't matter.. It's what we've been through and how we feel. Or at least, how i feel. ;p hehe. Four years isn't long at all, considering that we're in this for the long haul. Four years is just the first few baby steps.
It's been a great few baby steps tho. So much so that, it has enabled me to get a glimpse of what i would get in the future. Of what i really want in my future.
I guess, that's part of growing up. I'm lucky in that sense that, i have that certain someone to grow up and wisen up with. That we not only know who we were as lost angsty teenagers, we also know who we are going to be, and are helping each other achieve being that person.
i'm glad it's you and not some one else. :)
Must be my good karma. Haha
~*~
Our anniversaries have ALWAYS clashed with my exams. -_-
